G-CANS Project or Shutoken Gaikaku Housui Ro

これはG-CANS project Main Holding Tank. とてもおおきです。そしてとてもたかいです。

This is the Main Holding Tank for Japan's G-CANS project. It is an underground infrastructure in Tokyo built to prevent overflow in the city's major waterways and rivers during rain and typhoon seasons. Construction was started in 1992, and it consists of 5 concrete silos, and this main holding tank. It is a modern engineering marvel, and is just one of many large scale engineering project Japan has finished or is currently working on. The Japanese government invests a lot more into public works and projects like these than the American government does. They give guided tours in both English and Japanese if you go during a season where the tanks are not currently in use. I saw a piece about it on the show "Cities of the Underground: Tokyo" on the History Channel. When I visit Japan in the future, this is definitely something i will want to go see and tour (^_^)
